Created during a walk with a friend next to the Disa river, Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa.
As we walked along the path
You pointed out the new buds on the trees
I showed you the small little chickweed flowers
As we headed towards the river
You treaded carefully and mindfully
I picked up some dry leaves from the path
As we talked about relationships, racism, conspiracy theories,
individual responsibility and our dreams,
our voices mingled with the rush of the water
the dogs barking, and the birds singing...
As we walked back onto our foot prints
You took out your camera
I picked up some dried vines from a stump
And we continued our conversations
as I played. You took photos.
We marveled at the warm sunlight
We marveled at the little grey beetle
We marveled at life.

SCIRCLE IN THE FIELD. 28 1/2 RADIUS. SEPTEMBER 7TH.
The rabbits go from tree to tree making a path in the grass. The farmer takes his car around the field leaving a path of crushed grass.
So I thought to make a circle in the filed by walking in a circle and tramping it down. It is not so easy and the grass is full of different plants/flowers/grasses.
In places you can see it. But not all or very graphic. So it becomes more a performance than an installation.
I remember Robert Stackhouse making a work at Klein Art works out of wood, like a pier for over water, but set on the ground and it reflected the shape of the ground. Here the field/land is not flat and I worked on the edge of a kind of bowl in the land. Up near where the only black-eyed susans are growing.
