Karen Macher Nesta

 

I was born in Lima (Perú). I live and work in Lima. I guess it was in 2007 when I discovered, by chance, how was it like to work with nature. I went to my first nature installation symposium that took place in a forest in Belgium; there I found out a connection with nature that I want to keep on working with. Since then I have been more conscious about the materials I use for my artworks and started having the opportunity to participate in different nature and art symposiums and biennales in Germany, Canada, South Korea, Taiwan and Slovenia. I also started choosing materials that are ephemeral. What I like about using living plants, seeds and ephemeral materials in my work is that they have their own behavior. I can build something in a way I would like it to look like, but after some time nature takes my work and transforms it its own way. It can grow until what I built in the beginning is not seen anymore, or it can die and change its meaning completely. I like the idea of not having the last word in my own work. I like the idea of constant change, which is how life is.
